Welcome back to Fun-Size Friday! I’ve got a lot of stuff I want to discuss this week and only a hundred words to cover each one, so let’s get to it!
THOR THE FOURTH?!?
Despite my nitpicks with Thor: Ragnarok (that’s how you kill off the Warriors Three?), I really did enjoy director Taika Waititi’s fresh approach to the character. There’s no doubt in my mind that if Ragnarok hadn’t made the choices it did, Endgame probably would have been the last we ever saw of the God of Thunder, which would be a real shame after Chris Hemsworth just started to stretch his surprisingly deep acting chops. In any case, I’m extremely excited to see Mr. Waititi return to the director’s chair and work his magic again. Now, give me Beta Ray Bill!
SPEAKING OF TAIKA WAITITI…
I finally watched
Hunt for The Wilderpeople,
and…it was the best.
IN RETROSPECT, I PROBABLY WATCHED TOO MANY MOVIES LAST WEEK.
I was watching the new ‘Point Blank’ remake on Netflix — the one starring Anthony “Captain America” Mackie and Frank “Crossbones” Grillo — and maybe it was because it was the end of a long week and I was feeling really tired, but this action movie didn’t exactly wow me. I thought the actors did well enough with what they were given and the direction was competent, but in the end it all felt kind of insubstantial. All in all it’s not a “must see”, but I guess if you like these actors you could do a lot worse than Point Blank.
BELOW: AN ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF MY SUMMER JOGGING EXPERIENCE
In between writing and re-writing the next “Giant-Size” post (I’ve deleted so many words you guys) I’ve been trying to be more consistent about exercising. Right now I’m trying to jog for at least a half hour and no less than three times a week. All I can say is thank goodness for wireless earbuds because there is no way I could get a jog listening to my own labored breathing for thirty minutes straight. I know it’s not really geek-themed, but you know what? It’s my blog, and I can talk about my terrible lifestyle as much as I
MENTAL NOTE: ADD MORE ‘JUNKIE XL’ MUSIC TO MY RUNNING MIX
I don’t know what exactly got me thinking about the film Mad Max: Fury Road again, but I am very glad that it happened. Among the many things the movie excels at, the soundtrack by Dutch composer “Junkie XL” has got to rank near the top. It got to the point where I seriously just started playing the above track — “Brothers in Arms” — on a loop, which I can tell you from first-hand experience will improve your morning commute by at least two-thousand percent. Seriously though guys, drive safe out there. Valhalla can wait.
WHO NEEDS MUSIC TO GET HYPED? WE’VE GOT COMIC-CON THIS WEEKEND!
The weekend of San Diego Comic Con is a bit like the geek news equivalent of Christmas Day for me. Sure there’s the occasional “sock” — Funko Pop exclusives, for example, don’t really do much for me — but we also get fresh updates about upcoming movies, television shows, and comic books; most of which we haven’t seen anything for up until this point. Is it a bit lame to be excited for what basically amounts to fancy looking press releases? Maybe, but in the end you just can’t help liking the things you like, and I love Comic-Con.
That covers pretty much everything I could think of for this week. It was a pretty busy one for me between work and other responsibilities, so I didn’t get nearly as much writing done as I would have liked. Still, I’m resolved to finish at least one proper post before the end of the month, as soon as I stop being such a perfectionist and actually finish the darned thing. It took me a while to find the right angle to come at it, but I think I’ve got a solid foundation to build off now, so expect that one pretty soon. In the meantime, whether you’re attending San Diego Comic-Con or not, I hope you take care of yourself and have a great weekend!
