Greetings and welcome to the very first edition of Fun-Size Friday! This is my chance to completely abandon any pretensions of theme, analysis, and critical thinking to basically talk about whatever I want! I also won’t be limited to a single topic here; it could be just one or as many as a dozen [Editor’s Note: Never, ever gonna happen]. The only provision is that I have to keep each topic to a hundred words or less. Even this introduction is under a hundred words!
Yeah that’s right, we’ve already started.
KICKSTART A NEW ‘POWER RANGERS’ MOVIE (WITH JASON DAVID FRANK!)
This happened today, and I am pumped.
What? It’s Power Rangers! This was a good fifty percent of my childhood, conservatively. Now they want to make a movie featuring Power Rangers pulled from throughout the show’s history led by the man himself: Jason David Frank? How can I even try and be cynical when people are putting stuff like this out into the world? Look, I get that we barely know each other, but you’d really be doing me a solid if you donated a couple bucks to the campaign. If not for me, then do it for Tommy.
SERIOUSLY THOUGH MARVEL, WHERE’S MY DON CHEADLE ‘WAR MACHINE’ MOVIE?
I liked Spider-Man: Far From Home. Really. However, the fact that the movie insisted on asking who would step up and become the next Iron Man…and never once mentioned James Rhodes — the other guy in an Iron Man suit who’s also a military colonel and an Avenger and who helped save the Earth multiple times — well, it just doesn’t sit right with me. I get it, this is a Spider-Man movie and he’s supposed to be the new face of the MCU, but can we still at least acknowledge Rhodey exists? Perhaps in the form of a Disney+ series?
What Is This Silliness? Oh, That’s…Wow. WOW.
So there’s this TV show on right now called Penn & Teller: Fool Us, where contestants perform their tricks in front of Penn & Teller and see if they can’t stump the pair. Not appointment TV, necessarily, but enjoyable.
Honestly, it’s not really my bag, but it’s a fun thing to leave playing in the background while I work on other stuff. Then a couple nights back, a woman came on and performed something I’ve never heard of before called “Cardistry”, and suddenly I find myself marathoning Cardistry compilation videos in the dead of night.
It’s…it’s becoming a real problem, guys.
That’s pretty much it for this week. I didn’t have a ton of stuff I wanted to talk about this time around, but perhaps we’ll have a little more to discuss next week when San Diego Comic-Con kicks off! I won’t be going, sadly, but I’m expecting a ton of news to trickle onto the Internet regardless. For now, you can expect another “Fun-Size” post every Friday for the foreseeable future, at least until I fulfill my destiny as a world-renowned Cardist, which should be any day now.
